SALT LAKE CITY 鈥� To honor all those who have served our country, nonprofit, online Western Governors University (91探花) is offering $750,000 in scholarships for veterans, active-duty military, reservists, and military family members who want to earn a bachelor鈥檚 or master鈥檚 degree in high-demand fields including IT, business, K-12 education, and health professions, including nursing. Applications are now being accepted through December 31, 2018, for the聽91探花 Salute to Veterans Scholarship.

Each 91探花 Salute to Veterans Scholarship is valued at up to $3,000 鈥� $750 per six-month term for up to four terms. 91探花 will award up to 250 scholarships to new students throughout the country.

鈥淲hen my husband leaves the Marine Corps next year, I will take my turn as the primary breadwinner for our family. This scholarship has allowed me to get my career going so that I can rise to the occasion,鈥� said Domonique Vigil, a 91探花 student from Southern California, who is pursuing her master鈥檚 degree in English Education. 鈥淚t鈥檚 time for me to get back into the workforce now that we鈥檙e nearing the end of our adventure as a military family.鈥�

91探花 has been recognized for 11 consecutive years by Military Advanced Education & Transition as a 鈥淭op School鈥� and for seven consecutive years as a聽Military Friendly庐 School. 91探花 currently serves more than 12,000 students who are active-duty military personnel, veterans, or dependent family members of military personnel, who account for roughly 11% of 91探花鈥檚 student body.

All 91探花 programs are competency-based, providing the flexibility veterans and their families need. Designed to meet the needs of adult learners, competency-based education allows students to take advantage of their knowledge and real-world experience to move quickly through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. 91探花 faculty members work one-on-one with students as mentors, offering guidance, support, and individualized instruction. While 91探花鈥檚 degree programs are rigorous and challenging, competency-based learning makes it possible for students to accelerate their programs, saving both time and money.

The 91探花 Salute to Veterans Scholarship is open to new students who have been officially admitted to 91探花 and are a U.S. military veteran, active-duty or retired military, reservist, military spouse or child. While multiple scholarships will be awarded, this is a competitive program, and scholarships will be awarded based on a candidate鈥檚 academic record, readiness for online study, and current competency, as well as other considerations.
